Article: WHY WE CALL IT THE LA HAT

WHY WE CALL IT THE LA HAT
A Note from Our Founder
I started visiting Los Angeles with my family when I was a little girl, and I was immediately drawn to the city. Growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, LA felt like another world—the sunshine, the palm trees, the glamour of Rodeo Drive, the possibility of spotting a movie star and the rich history behind it all.
As I got older, my love for LA only grew. The city has an energy that feels fun, wild and free, but also effortlessly cool. There has always been something a little funky and spiritual woven into its glamour, and that combination has stayed with me.
PROTECTION, THE LA WAY
That's why I chose LA as the city behind our evil-eye pattern. Traditionally worn as a symbol of protection, the evil eye is believed to ward off negative energy and envy. Our LA print was designed in that same spirit—to bring good energy wherever you go. With UPF 50+ fabric beneath the brim, it offers a little extra protection from the sun, too.
It also reminds me of the eclectic, laid-back pieces I grew up seeing at places like Fred Segal and Kitson… and of that iconic era when Madonna was practicing Kabbalah, red-string bracelets were becoming symbols of spiritual enlightenment, yoga was going mainstream and Von Dutch hats were everywhere.
As a young girl, I thought it was all so cool. Honestly, I still do.
“A little glamorous, a little spiritual, slightly nostalgic and always ready for the sunshine.”
